Individual Therapy for Trauma — Somatic, Arts-Based, Online
For when trust was the first thing that got taken— — trust in other people, and often, trust in your own body.
Individual therapy at Soul Works Healing is somatic, mind-body trauma therapy over video: Brainspotting, expressive arts, and somatic parts-work, woven with talk and real neuroscience. I work with adults and older teens in California, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
The aim isn't a fixed idea of "healed." It's helping your mind and body renegotiate a curious, honest relationship with each other — and helping you learn to read your own signal again. Healing what happened is half the work. The other half is what you build after it — identity, agency, connection, a life that's meaningfully yours.
You've probably already done the understanding part. You can narrate what happened and why you are the way you are. If understanding were enough, you wouldn't be here. That's what the body-based work is for.
Personalized online therapy in six states
Complex and relational trauma — your own, and the kind that was handed down. Sexual assault recovery. Anxiety and panic that logic can't talk down. The renegotiation of who you are against who you were raised to be.
Often it arrives wearing a familiar face: the parentified daughter who ran the household before she could drive. The one whose yes stopped belonging to her — the fawn response, working overtime. The adult child of immigrants keeping the ledger of everyone's sacrifice. The one leaving, keeping, or remaking a faith. Each of those links goes somewhere, because each one has its own page here — written for that exact experience.
If your version isn't on that list, it doesn't disqualify you. The list is where the patterns cluster, not where they end.
What we work on, together
How I work: The body is in the room, even over video
Talk starts everything, and talk alone rarely finishes it. Trauma lives below the level of insight — in the nervous system, in the flinch, in the parts of you that learned their jobs decades ago. So we work there, in whichever language your system responds to.
Brainspotting uses where your eyes naturally rest to reach what got stored before words. Somatic parts-work sits down with the protectors themselves — the manager, the pleaser, the one who never rests — with curiosity instead of argument. Expressive arts gives the wordless material somewhere to go: image, metaphor, movement. And guided imagery, the quietest tool I use, has been one of the most instrumental across my whole clinical career — a way of building internal resources your body actually believes. Through therapy, we help you reconnect with your body.
Over video, none of this loses power. You're in your own space, with your own art supplies and your own blanket, and your nervous system knows the room. Nobody has to hold it together in a waiting room afterward.
The arc of the work
Healing isn’t always linear, but below is a flow of what you can expect working with me. We move through four stages, at your pace.
The Filling In
01
In our first few sessions we’ll use talk therapy first: your story, your goals, how you relate to both.
02
Setting Foundation
We’ll focus on psycho-education, compassion for all your parts, coping that matches your values, and enough internal resources that deep work is safe.
03
Really it’s all “big work,” but this is where we can use expressive arts, parts-work, Brainspotting, and somatic processing, rewiring the difficult narratives at a resourced pace.
04
The Harvesting
This is the post-traumatic growth phase: fine-tuning what changed, naming what you've built — the identity, agency, and connection that are yours now — and graduating with confidence.
Does online therapy go as deep as in-person?
For this kind of work — yes, and sometimes deeper. Body-based therapy needs your nervous system regulated enough to process, and most people regulate best in their own space. Brainspotting translates to a screen naturally; expressive arts means your materials are already in your house; parts-work needs only presence. What we build is a relationship, and the relationship is not diluted by distance. My clients from three states away would tell you the room we make is real.

About my training — and why this type of therapy works
My practice sits at an unusual intersection on purpose. I teach graduate clinicians the mind-body connection as adjunct faculty at Bastyr University, and I'm doctoral-trained in expressive arts through The European Graduate School — so when I tell you this isn't just intuition dressed up as therapy, I can show you the wiring.
The somatic parts-work comes through The Embody Lab, the Brainspotting through accredited training, the MSW with distinction from UNC Wilmington. Every one of those was chosen for the same reason: each is a different language for the conversation between mind and body, and I wanted to speak enough of them that we never get stuck when yours changes.
Questions people ask before starting
-
Then we don't start there — and you may never need to narrate it at all. Brainspotting and somatic work process experience without requiring the story out loud, and expressive arts speaks when words won't. Your pace, your telling, your call.
-
It varies honestly and widely. Some work resolves in months; complex trauma unfolds in seasons. We check the map together regularly — you'll always know why we're doing what we're doing, and whether it's working.
-
I see clients over secure video in California, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Sessions are $160, $200, or $250 on my equitable three-tier model — you choose what's sustainable. Superbills provided; I partner with Thrizer. The first 20-minute consultation is free.
-
I'm out-of-network by design — it keeps the work unhurried and shaped by you rather than by a claims process. Many clients get meaningful reimbursement through out-of-network benefits, and I provide superbills and partner with Thrizer to make that easier.
-
A free video consultation: ask anything, tell me as much or as little as you want, and see whether the fit feels right. Deciding to trust someone new is the whole subject here — so we'll go at the speed of trust from the first call.
